He Xiaopeng, CEO of the Guangzhou-based carmaker, said the refreshed P7 would set the benchmark for next-generation EVs, and highlights technological advances of Chinese smart EVs.

“The next-generation P7 is more than a car, it’s Xpeng’s answer for the AI era in form and function,” the CEO told a virtual launch ceremony on Thursday.

The P7 sedan, which would be priced from about 300,000 yuan (US$41,630), was expected to hit the mainland Chinese market in July or August, according to the company.

It is “a bold, emotional and athletic 5-seater coupe that raises the bar in both aesthetics and performance”, Xpeng said.

The P7 will be equipped with Xpeng’s indigenous Turing chip, which has not yet been used in any production model.
