The collapse of the 30-storey tower last week also prompted the navy to assess the structure of its new command centre, which was built by the same construction company.

A popular watchdog Facebook page Strong Anti-corruption Club Thailand revealed on Sunday what it said was the furniture list for the SAO tower.

Sets of sofas priced at 165,000 baht (US$4,815) in total, with one of them featuring imported Italian gold leaf, and a carpet costing the same price, were on the list disclosed by the Facebook page, which has more than 192,000 followers, according to The Nation.

An armchair covered by genuine leather and made with beech, worth 97,900 baht, and 28 rosewood chairs priced at 48,400 baht each were also on the list.

Bathroom items including 98 taps costing 8,250 baht each and 98 soap dispensers priced at 1,668 baht also made the list, according to Bangkok Post, further adding to the impression that the building would be a luxurious place.

Furious comments flooded, as online users slammed the agency for wasting taxpayers’ money.
