Hong Kong can serve as a global launch pad for products from the mainland, including those from Ningxia Hui autonomous region, and take advantage of the seismic shifts in the global trade order, according to Yue Yi, the chairman of the newly formed Ningxia-Hong Kong Cooperation Advisory Committee.
Yue delivered a speech on behalf of former Hong Kong chief executive Leung Chun-ying, who was scheduled to speak at an event to promote the autonomous region in northwestern China.
“Rooted in today’s realities, this represents the joint response of Hong Kong and the mainland to the significant shifts in the international economic and trade order,” said Yue, reading remarks prepared for Leung.
Dozens of agreements totalling 4.52 billion yuan (US$615.9 million) were signed at the event, covering areas ranging from tourism to products such as wine and mutton.
