China’s humanoid robot manufacturers are charging full steam ahead to mass production, which a new report said would boost the total value of automata made on the mainland this year to about 4.5 billion yuan (US$616 million).
Six out of 11 domestic humanoid robot makers, which had set their mass production initiatives in 2024, plan to manufacture more than a thousand units this year, market research firm TrendForce said in a report released on Monday.
Along with Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s target to produce thousands of Optimus robots this year, China’s robotics supply chain is expected to benefit from this development, according to the Taipei-based research firm.
The advent of mass production reflects intensifying competition in China’s robotics industry, which is fuelled by an artificial intelligence boom and the country’s drive for technology self-sufficiency.
Tesla and other US companies, however, rely on Chinese suppliers for many humanoid robot core components, which makes their production plans vulnerable to tariff disruptions, the Post reported last week.
