Macau’s tourism and casino revenues are poised to see sustained growth in the second half of the year, as high-profile events and concerts attract an increasing number of visitors.

The city has a busy concert pipeline over the next two months. Hong Kong singers like Sandy Lam, Aaron Kwok and Eason Chan will hold multiple shows in the casino hub between now and September, while South Korean actor Park Bo-gum, who starred in the TV drama, When life gives you tangerines, will meet his fans in September.

At the same time, summer attractions tied to the 30th anniversary of the Hollywood blockbuster Toy Story, including character experiences with Woody and Buzz Lightyear, and art exhibitions are expected to fuel visitor numbers to the city.

Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), was confident about the tourism prospects for August, noting the city’s overall hotel occupancy rate was currently close to 90 per cent.

The city was likely to see daily average visitor arrivals of 110,000 in July and August, up 2.2 per cent from last year’s average of 107,628, she said on Monday.

Kevin Benning, senior vice-president and property general manager of Studio City, said the hotel-casino resort on the Cotai Strip had recently seen an uptick in family visitors.
