My top 10 things to watch Wednesday, Aug. 27 1. It’s Nvidia day. In a preview for Club members, we outlined four burning questions for tonight’s call, including what’s happening with orders for the newest Blackwell chip, the GB300, and details on the total cost of ownership for its market-leading tech. China and margins also in focus. 2. With Nvidia taking center stage, the market is on track for a muted open this morning. The S & P 500 is coming off a 0.4% advance yesterday as traders shook off the back-and-forth between President Donald Trump and Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. 3. Blowout earnings report from database software provider MongoDB , sending shares up 29% this morning. Citi went to $425 a share from $400. MongoDB’s cloud-based product allows you to interrogate data. It’s real AI. 4. Club name Apple’s iPhone launch event is officially scheduled for Sept. 9. Goldman Sachs told clients it’s “encouraged” by expectations for new phone sizes, a potential price hike for the “Pro” model, and cell carriers offering promotions to stoke sales. Analysts reiterated their buy rating on the stock, which is having a strong month. 5. Trump’s 50% tariff on imports from India took effect today. The president said he doubled the duty rate because India continues to buy Russian oil. Trump is trying to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Separately, The Wall Street Journal reported that Exxon Mobil has held talks with Russia’s state-owned Rosneft about returning to a Russian oil project. 6. Barclays raised its price target on identity security provider Okta to $115 from $100 but kept its hold-equivalent rating on the stock. While Okta’s quarter was “clean,” analysts believe it’s lifted full-year sales guidance removes conservatism. Shares are up 5% this morning to around $96 each. 7. The worst is over for Eli Lilly , according to HSBC, which upgraded the Club stock to hold from sell and increased its price target to $700 from $675. Analysts believe the now-lowered expectations for its oral GLP-1 drug are appropriate. We got more bullish on Lilly after insiders started buying, and that’s been the right call thus far. 8. Bank of America upped its price target on Calvin Klein owner PVH Corp . to $88 from $76 after its better-than-expected earnings report. Analysts kept their neutral rating, though, noting that tariffs may be a bigger issuer for PVH next year due to timing. 9. Kohl’s shares surged 21% this morning after the struggling retailer reported a great quarter relative to Wall Street expectations. Lots of short interest in this name. Still, how did they do it? It’s now expecting full-year net sales to drop between 5% and 6%, better than the 5% to 7% drop previously forecast. 10. “KPop Demon Hunters” has four songs in top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, as the animated film has become Netflix’s most-watched movie ever. It’s further evidence of Netflix’s hit-producing abilities and cultural impact.
