The 73-year-old’s move plunges the country into fresh political uncertainty. His resignation follows that of his home minister, Ramesh Lekhak, on Monday. Two other ministers also quit on Tuesday, according to Nepali media.
On Tuesday morning, Information Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung said the social media ban had been lifted. “We have withdrawn the shutdown of the social media. They are working now,” he told reporters.

But anger against the government showed no signs of abating, as protesters gathered in front of parliament and other places in the capital Kathmandu, in defiance of an indefinite curfew imposed by authorities.
