ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) announced the success of its digital transformation journey with the prime minister’s vision through the launch and effective implementation of multiple online portals, resulting in clearing backlog.

These include the Registration Portal, Postgraduate Qualification Portal, Experience & Faculty Portal, and the MDCAT Portal, all of which have significantly enhanced the efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of PM&DC’s services.

Since May 2024, the digitalisation initiative has reshaped the Council’s working structure, bringing tangible improvements in service delivery for medical and dental professionals, institutions, and students across Pakistan.

The PM&DC has advanced its digitalization efforts, utilizing new portals and e-certification to clear backlogs, process applications more efficiently, and enhance transparency and service delivery efficiency.

Thousands of applications for registrations, postgraduate qualifications, and faculty verification have been processed in record time, reducing delays and clearing backlogs. Applicants can now track their cases in real time, ensuring accountability and eliminating unnecessary hurdles. The new portals have reduced the need for physical visits, enabling stakeholders to access essential services at any time and from anywhere.

Through the MDCAT portal, entrance examination registrations are now managed more efficiently with enhanced oversight and transparency. Students can easily complete their registrations online, and the option of secure digital payments has saved them valuable time and effort.

Since the launch of the portals, applications have been processed promptly and efficiently in 3-4 working days. The latest performance figures reflect the success:

Talking about registration total no of cases of registration received in a year is 175738 from which 173373 cases have been promptly completed and issued i.e Full Licenses 33,040 received, 32,469 disposed, Good Standing Certificates 25,971 received, 25,952 completed, Pak National Foreign Basic Provisional Licenses 5,974 received, 5,232 disposed, Practical Experience Certificates 1,234 received, 1,134 issued, Provisional Licenses 31,757 received, 31,539 issued, Postgraduate Qualifications 9,288 received, 8,908 issued, Renewals of Full Licenses: 61,717 received, 61,574 completed Extensions in Provisional Licenses 4,526 received, 4,446 completed and in any change in data, duplicate, foreign Post Graduation with pak provisional and temporary license 2231 received 2119 have been completed.

The portal for faculty registration portal was also been launched and total 13884 cases were received and 13483 cases were completed.

In continuation to this, PM&DC has also officially launched its Licensing System at the Lahore Regional Office (Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex) and in Karachi, marking a major step toward facilitating medical and dental graduates and practitioners.

This digitization will be a further way forward to simplify and expedite the registration process, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and accessibility while eliminating the need for practitioners from Punjab and Sindh to travel to Islamabad for routine services.

Key services available at the Lahore and Karachi offices include full registration and license renewal, Issuance of Good Standing Certificates, Provision of duplicates, Updates or changes to practitioner records.

Doctors will also receive on-site assistance in using the online portal. Completed certificates will be dispatched via TCS courier, with copies provided on request.

President of PM&DC Prof. Rizwan Taj stated that these figures demonstrate the Council’s hard work and broader vision to digital transformation, ensuring that medical and dental professionals across Pakistan benefit from a faster, more reliable, and transparent regulatory process.

The regional offices have been digitized Phase I in Lahore, Phase II in Karachi, will soon expand nationwide Phase III in Peshawar (KPK), Phase IV in Balochistan.

The Council remains enthusiastic to further strengthen its IT infrastructure and introduce additional digital solutions to achieve minimal human interaction, faster turnaround times, and global best practices in medical and dental regulations. He emphasised that the small number of cases that are pending are mostly because of delays or complexity in third-party verification and by law, PM&DC cannot expedite the cases without verification.
