China’s top diplomat Wang Yi to visit Italy and Switzerland this week: foreign ministry

Beijing’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, is scheduled to visit Italy and Switzerland from Tuesday until October 12, China’s foreign ministry said on Sunday.

Wang would attend the 12th joint meeting of the China-Italy government committee and the fourth round of the China-Switzerland strategic dialogue held between foreign ministers, the ministry said in a statement.

His trip follows an olive branch extended last Monday by Rome to state-backed Chinese group Sinochem International Corp, the main shareholder in Italian tyremaker Pirelli.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s office this month dismissed the administrative case involving Sinochem, Pirelli said on Monday, after finding no evidence that either the Chinese company or its appointees had compromised management independence.

The investigation involved China National Tire and Rubber Corp, a unit of Sinochem.
