PESHAWAR: Three hydropower projects initiated under the supervision of the Provincial Energy Development Organization (PEDO) will start producing 330 megawatt (MW) electricity within next two years.

Secretary Energy and Power, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohammad Zubair has said that work is also underway on three hydropower projects in Swat. The projects of 330 MW capacity will start production in next two years.

These under-construction hydropower projects include 84 MW Matiltan, 88 MW Gabral Kalam, 40-kilometer long 132/220 kW transmission line project sites and the 36.6 MW Daral Khor Hydropower Plant affected by the recent flood.

Secretary Energy and Power Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mohammad Zubair Khan visited the under-construction hydropower projects along with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PEDO Habibullah and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Swat, Saleem Jan to review progress on them.

Speaking on the occasion, the secretary Energy and Power said that construction work has also been accelerated on laying a 40-kilometer-long transmission line on the Swat corridor, which will be completed next year, with the completion of which cheap electricity will be sold to the industrial sector of the province.

Moreover, during visit, the ongoing construction work on the projects was discussed and progress was inspected. In addition, he directed to take action on the complaints of the public regarding water supply and gave instructions for arrangements for water supply.

The employees of the Gorkin Matiltan project also raised the issue of non-payment of salaries, on which he issued orders to the authorities to immediately pay the arrears.

Later, the secretary Energy also visited the under-construction staff colony of the Gabral Kalam Power Project. He issued instructions to further expedite the work and complete the project on time.

During the visit, Secretary Zubair Khan also inspected the Gorkin Matiltan transmission line system and also visited the flood-affected Daral Khor power plant in Bahrain.

On this occasion, the secretary Energy and Power also directed the Assistant Commissioner Bahrain to find immediate solutions to the public problems so that the obstacles faced in the project are immediately removed and the construction work is completed on time.
