After China’s ruling Communist Party concluded the fourth plenum of its powerful Central Committee on Thursday, a press conference is being held on Friday morning to review the events of the conclave and the committee’s conclusions.
Among those attending the briefing are the head of the country’s top economic planner, the minister of commerce, the minister of science and technology, the head of the national health commission, the head of the party’s foremost policy think tank, and the deputy director of the party’s economic affairs office.
In a communique issued following the plenum’s completion, the committee swore to “face major tests” and “tackle difficulties” amid “high winds, rough waves and raging storms”, alluding to a set of internal and external challenges the party must overcome to meet its medium- and long-term benchmarks for economic and social development – goals expected to be addressed in further detail by the country’s next five-year plan.
