The Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Karachi, in a joint operation with Sindh Rangers and Sindh Police, has foiled a major smuggling attempt, seizing foreign-origin fabric worth millions of rupees.

According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the operation was conducted on the intervening night of November 9 and 10, based on credible intelligence.

The enforcement teams, led by Assistant Collector (ASO) Ms Bisma Noor Jatoi, raided multiple warehouses in the Tariq Road area where smuggled fabric was illegally stored.

The operation reportedly met violent resistance from a mob of around 200-300 people, who pelted stones, set empty trucks on fire, and tried to obstruct the enforcement action.

Despite the hostility, the joint teams maintained discipline and successfully completed the operation, seizing 22 Mazda trucks and a 40-foot container loaded with smuggled fabric.

The confiscated goods, valued in millions of rupees, have been transferred to the ASO warehouse for further investigation and legal proceedings under the Customs Act, 1969.

An FIR has been registered at Ferozabad Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Pakistan Penal Code against those arrested and unidentified individuals involved in the violence.

The FBR commended the Karachi Enforcement team for its successful operation and appreciated the support of Sindh Rangers and Sindh Police.

It reaffirmed its resolve to combat smuggling, safeguard national revenue, and promote legitimate trade in the country.
