“Bali is a global destination. Security is our shared responsibility to ensure tourism continues to operate smoothly and benefit all parties,” Bali police chief Daniel Adityajaya said at a meeting in Denpasar with 24 consulates on the island, the Bali Sun reported on Friday.
Representatives from all the major consulates – including Australia, China, Japan, the US and Russia – attended the October 31 meeting, which was similar to the one that Adityajaya called in February.
From January to October, there were 301 criminal cases involving 309 foreign nationals, according to Bali’s police.
Apart from visa and immigration related violations, foreigners had also been involved in high-profile criminal cases ranging from narcotics and fraud to illegal investing and cybercrime, Adityajaya said.
Suwandi Prihantoro, Bali police’s director of community development, said: “The police cannot solve this problem alone. Therefore, we are involving the local government, agency heads and immigration authorities to jointly carry out their duties according to their respective fields and functions to maintain a more orderly Bali.”
