He Xiaopeng, co-founder and CEO of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Xpeng, is not concerned about a bubble in the artificial intelligence sector and believes autonomous cars will outperform human drivers sometime soon.

Sharing his thoughts on Weibo, the billionaire entrepreneur tried to allay public concerns about an overheated AI industry, adding that he foresaw vast opportunities ahead.

“Any technological revolution will inevitably see bubbles in some aspects during a certain period of time, whether in the internet age or the era of new-energy vehicles,” he said in a post published on Wednesday. “Overall, AI is bound to drive significant societal changes, and we are currently in the early stages of moving from 0 to 0.1.”

The Xpeng CEO is one of the few influential Chinese company bosses who have publicly commented on the prospects for AI, a field in which both Beijing and Washington are battling to gain the upper hand.

He added that he visited the US recently to exchange views with more than 30 professionals in the AI field before drawing his conclusions about the industry.
