Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Quetta seized contraband goods worth Rs317 million in multiple operations, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said in a statement on Saturday.

As per the details, an intelligence-based operation (IBO) was carried out in coordination with Quetta Police in which Customs Enforcement seized 508 cartons (25,400 sticks) of assorted branded smuggled cigarettes.

“The assessed value of the seized cigarettes is Rs200 million. The contraband was recovered following meticulous surveillance and examination in strict compliance with prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” the FBR said.

In separate operations, Customs also seized a large quantity of smuggled mobile phones and 13 Non-Custom-Paid (NCP) vehicles, with a combined assessed value of Rs117 million.

“All seized items have been taken into official custody, and further legal proceedings are being initiated under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969,” the statement read.

On Friday, the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Karachi, intercepted a consignment of smuggled mobile phones worth approximately Rs62 million during an IBO.
