LAHORE: Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren has said that China is engaged in major infrastructure projects across Pakistan and that the Chinese companies are keen to further invest in the country.
He appreciated the role of Punjab Home Department in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens.
He said this during his visit, along with a delegation, to the Punjab Home Department and held a meeting with Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the law and order situation in Punjab and the security arrangements made for Chinese nationals residing and working in the province.
The meeting was also attended by the Chinese Deputy Consul General, Special Secretary Home, Additional Secretary (Foreign National Security), Additional Secretary (Internal Security), Additional Secretary (Home), and other senior officials.
Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi reaffirmed that the safety of officials and tourists working on CPEC projects remains the top priority of the Punjab government. He added that the home department is fully committed to ensuring the security and facilitation of all Chinese nationals, with foolproof arrangements made in all industrial zones.
Dr Qazi further said the offices of the home department are always open for Chinese citizens and government representatives, adding the capacity of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) dedicated to Chinese security is being enhanced. He emphasized that the provincial government is strictly implementing federal guidelines to ensure the safe movement of Chinese nationals. The home secretary also expressed gratitude to China for its continued cooperation on various occasions.
During the visit, Consul General Zhao Shiren also showed keen interest in various products made by inmates under the Punjab Chief Minister’s prison reforms initiative.
