ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet on Monday approved a total of six supplementary grants worth Rs92 billion, including utilisation of Rs54.5bn received from UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) for the Daanish school project.

A meeting of the ECC, presided over by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurganzeb, “approved a proposal for a technical supplementary grant (TSG) of Rs54.5bn to the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training for the Daanish Education Trust to provide high-quality higher education to under-privileged students, ensuring academic excellence nationwide”, said an official statement.

The ECC also approved another bulky technical supplementary grant of Rs23.434bn for Federal Directorate of Immunisation (FDI) to support the inoculation of over 8m children under two years of age against 12 vaccine-preventable diseases.

The ECC approved a Rs9bn grant for the Finance Division to address grants, subsidies, and miscellaneous expenditures for the fiscal year 2024-25. Another Rs50m grant was given to the National Commission for Human Rights, while Rs1.06bn was approved for the timely completion of the “Transformation to National Forensic Agency” project, ensuring it is completed by June 30.

The meeting also approved Rs264.8m for government building maintenance transferred from PAK-PWD to the Capital Development Authority, besides a Rs3.57bn grant for Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Centre Company for the establishment of a 1,000-bed academic medical centre in Islamabad.
