Hong Kong stocks fell on Tuesday, taking their cue from the sell-off overnight on Wall Street, as the market reopened after a long weekend.
The Hang Seng Index eased 0.2 per cent to 21,363.24 as of 9.32am local time. The Hang Seng Tech Index lost 0.8 per cent. Hong Kong’s market was closed on Friday and Monday for the Easter holiday.
On the mainland, the CSI 300 Index slipped less than 0.1 per cent and the Shanghai Composite Index added 0.1 per cent.
US stocks, along with 10-year Treasury, slumped after US President Donald Trump threatened to replace Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell, putting at risk the independence of the world’s biggest central bank.
Elsewhere in Asia-Pacific, Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.1 per cent, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.4 per cent, while South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.5 per cent.
