My top 10 things to watch Tuesday, April 8 1. U.S. stocks are heading for a strong open after Thursday and Friday’s post-tariff announcement plunges and Monday’s huge swings. President Donald Trump’s country-specific levies are set to go into effect tomorrow. 2. Ahead of the tariff deadline, the U.S. and China are going back and forth with retaliation, threats, and ultimatums. An additional 50% levy on China imports means inflation and recession. 3. Is Apple why there is such a big tariff on Vietnam? White House trade advisor Peter Navarro believes that Apple isn’t doing enough to build in the U.S., even as iPhones would be too expensive. 4. Club stock Apple is finally bouncing today after a crushing three-session sell-off on tariff worries. KeyBanc’s new price target of $170, down from $200, implies more pain ahead. 5. Club name Broadcom is working on a strong rally for the second straight session after last night’s announcement of a $10 billion share buyback. CEO Hock Tan said it “reflects the board’s confidence.” 6. Truist put out a wide-ranging note on consumer stocks. The analysts cut their price target on Club name Home Depot to $391 per share from $437, reflecting tariff headwinds. Truist kept its buy rating. 7. Club name Amazon versus Walmart versus Target : Which retailing giant holds the cards in China to get low prices? We know fellow Club name Costco has pricing power and its own Kirkland Signature brand. 8. Levi Strauss shares jumped 12% after solid earnings. Management stood by their full-year outlook, though they did not account for potential tariff impact yet. JPMorgan upgraded the stock an overweight buy. I talked to Levi’s CEO last night on “Mad Money.” 9. JPMorgan cuts its price targets on a number of Club industrial names — Eaton , Honeywell , DuPont , and Dover — due to updated models reflecting Trump’s tariffs. Citi also cut its DuPont price target. 10. Barclays lowered its Disney price target to $115 per share from $125 but kept its overweight buy rating. The analysts said that macroeconomic drags may not be figured into earnings estimates, yet.
