The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Karachi, seized over 42,200 litres of smuggled Iranian diesel worth over Rs12 million on Friday, in a successful operation against the illegal storage and sale of smuggled Iranian diesel along the Northern Bypass, Karachi, read a statement.

Acting on credible intelligence, Customs teams launched a coordinated operation under the supervision of senior officers during the early hours to prevent the movement of contraband to a safe location.

Several concealed tanks and makeshift facilities were discovered, leading to the recovery of approximately 42,200 litres of Iranian diesel, valued at over Rs12million.

“The seized fuel has been transferred to the Caspian State Warehouse, Korangi, for safe custody,” the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said.

“This operation highlights FBR’s firm resolve to curb the smuggling of petroleum products, which causes heavy losses to the national exchequer and undermines legitimate trade.

“FBR reiterated its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against smuggling, ensuring strict enforcement across the country to protect and promote lawful businesses and national revenue,” it added.

Last month, the Marine Enforcement Unit of the Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Karachi, intercepted three wooden launches carrying 132,564 litres of smuggled Iranian High-Speed Diesel (HSD) worth over Rs78 million.

The seizure was called the largest single-operation recovery of Iranian diesel to date.
