Every weekday, the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer releases the Homestretch — an actionable afternoon update, just in time for the last hour of trading on Wall Street. Market update : Stocks are higher on Wednesday, extending the S & P 500 ‘s win streak to three days and the recent rebound to more than 3%. However, there’s some lopsided action on the tape, with pressure in mega-cap AI stocks like Nvidia , AMD , and Oracle weighing on the Nasdaq. The concern is that Meta Platforms, one of Nvidia’s big customers, will strike a deal with Alphabet to use its tensor processing units for its data centers. And that would lead to Nvidia ceding share to Broadcom , which partners with Alphabet to design and make the custom chips. Meta rallied on this news, too, under the idea that it wouldn’t have to spend as aggressively as it believed to build out its AI infrastructure. Looking beyond the tech sector, many stocks are having a strong session, with health care leading the pack. The once beleaguered sector is far and away the top performer in the fourth quarter and is closing in on industrials for fourth place this year. Retail stands out : The consumer discretionary sector is also having a great day after a bunch of retailers reported better-than-expected quarters and raised their full-year outlooks. Dick’s Sporting Goods , Abercrombie , Best Buy , and Kohl’s all posted solid results. Their upbeat outlooks, despite September retail sales missing estimates, underscore why you can’t lump the entire retail sector into a single bucket. TJX Companies is doing incredibly well; Costco is posting strong monthly sales despite the stock’s lackluster returns; and Dick’s Sporting Goods’ mid-single-digit comps are a good sign that Nike is turning around. More broadly, there have been plenty of signs that consumers have pulled back since the start of October, which also coincides with the government’s temporary shutdown. We learned on Tuesday that consumer confidence in November hit its lowest level since April, according to the Conference Board. But a reopened government combined with another rate cut (which is looking more likely in December) could help sentiment in the months ahead. Up next : It’s a big night of tech earnings with Dell Technologies , HP Inc , Workday , Zscaler , and Ambarella scheduled to report. Deere reports on Wednesday before the opening bell.
