‘Pakistan Green and Resilient Building Conference-2025’ held – Business & Finance

KARACHI: Three-day “Pakistan Green and Resilient Building Conference-2025” here brought together representatives from federal and provincial departments, private sector organizations, financial institutions, and development partners.

The conference aimed to develop practical strategies and policy measures for promoting sustainable, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly construction practices across the country.

In her keynote address, Aisha Moriani, Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, highlighted the Government of Pakistan’s recent initiatives, including the Pakistan Green Building Code-2023, Green Taxonomy, and Climate Risk Screening Guidelines-2024.

She noted that these initiatives mark significant progress in integrating sustainability into national development planning.

During the event, EDGE Awards were presented to recognize outstanding performance in energy and resource efficiency. Eight organizations received EDGE certification awards, including Chairman P&D Najam Shah graced the event and awarded the companies who received the EGDE certification.

OGDC, Zameen Development, Allied Bank, Safia Homes (Ansaar Management Company), Modulus Green Homes, HBL Microfinance Bank, Serena Hotels, and Habib University.

Director General, Sindh Building Control Authority, Muzamil Hussain Halepoto, on this occasion emphasized that the Government of Sindh is taking concrete steps to integrate green building requirements and eco-friendly policies into building regulations. “Promoting sustainable construction will not only help mitigate climate risks but strengthen the foundations of urban development.”

DG, SBCA also participated in a panel discussion alongside representatives from the Ministry of Climate Change, National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority, and the World Bank, where participants discussed policy implementation, financial facilitation, and practical mechanisms for scaling up green and resilient construction in Pakistan.

Participants from public and private sectors expressed commitment to support sustainable building initiatives through technical and financial cooperation. New professionals were also awarded Experts PIN Certification, while the role of youth in advancing climate resilience efforts was particularly highlighted.

The conference concluded with a high-level roundtable discussion on Green Building Incentives, where government institutions, financial organizations, and private sector stakeholders deliberated on policy and market-based approaches to promote sustainable construction.

The participants also attended capacity-building workshops on the International Finance Corporation’s, Building Resilience Index, gaining practical tools and training to assess and enhance building resilience against environmental risks.
