ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam) has asked the government to formulate a national policy for the tractor manufacturing industry.
During a meeting with Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain on Thursday, Paapam Chairman Usman Aslam Malik stated that the tractor manufacturing industry is a significant contributor to the national economy, generating approximately $400 million annually.
This contribution could increase to $1 billion with the support of a national policy, creating opportunities for enhanced exports, local employment and technology transfer, the Paapam delegation said while proposing the government devise a policy for the tractor industry.
The meeting focused on strengthening agricultural mechanisation by introducing a comprehensive national tractor policy to support both local productivity and export potential.
The delegation highlighted that the availability and affordability of modern and advanced tractors are directly linked to improving the productivity of agricultural lands.
Given the ministry’s mandate to ensure food security, promote sustainable agriculture, and enhance farmer prosperity, Rana Tanveer Hussain acknowledged the importance of the policy proposal.
“The ministry is committed to promoting mechanisation in agriculture, which is critical for improving crop yields, reducing post-harvest losses, and ensuring food security,’’ the minister said.
