Habib Metropolitan Bank Limited (HMBL) has announced that Sima Kamil, a seasoned banker, has resigned as an independent director from its board.

The bank disclosed the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday.

“We would like to inform you that Sima Kamil has tendered her resignation as an independent director from the Board of Habib Metropolitan Bank Limited with effect from 30 December 2025,” the notice said.

Kamil is a seasoned banker with over 30 years of experience in the banking industry.

In 2020, she was appointed as the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Deputy Governor.

She was also associated with United Bank Limited (UBL), where she served as president and chief executive officer from March 2017, becoming the first woman to head a major bank in Pakistan. She had earlier served as deputy CEO of UBL.

Kamil began her career at American Express Bank and later worked at ANZ Grindlays and Standard Chartered. She also served at Habib Bank Limited, first as head of corporate and investment banking and later as head of branch banking. In 2015, she led the development and launch of HBL Nisa, a women’s market programme aimed at promoting the bank’s services for women.

She has also been associated with the microfinance sector, having served as a director of the First MicroFinance Bank. Kamil holds a business degree from Kingston University, UK, and an MBA from City University, London.
