Every weekday, the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer releases the Homestretch — an actionable afternoon update, just in time for the last hour of trading on Wall Street. Market moves: The S & P 500 ‘s six-session winning streak is in jeopardy as U.S. stocks dipped modestly on Tuesday. The slight decline follows a volatile session Monday in which the market overcame a decline of more than 1% in reaction to Moody’s downgrade of U.S. debt and finished the day higher. The S & P 500 has gained nearly 5.4% since its close on May 9. The rally got off to a roaring start on Monday, May 12, with a gain of almost 3.3%, after the U.S. and China agreed to temporarily de-escalate their tariff war in hopes of reaching a broader trade agreement. Power Play: There were a couple of positive updates for the newest addition to the portfolio, GE Vernova . One was news that President Donald Trump will allow a New York offshore wind project. The president is no fan of wind power. Still, Trump’s administration lifted a stop-work order on the project, apparently in exchange for the approval of new natural gas pipelines to be built in New York. According to a 2022 press release , GE Renewable Energy, now known as GE Vernova, is part of the joint venture on the project, and its grid solutions business is responsible for delivering the onshore substation and interconnection cable in Brooklyn. GE Vernova is also designing and supplying the high-voltage electrical systems for the offshore substation. It’s unclear if GE Vernova is making the wind turbines for this project, which aims to be operational in 2027. Separately, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) said last week that it’s the first utility in the United States to submit a construction permit application for GE Vernova’s small modular reactor (SMR) technology to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. It’s a notable deal because the TVA is the largest public power supplier in the country, and this application is part of the company’s plan to pursue an SMR in Tennessee and establish, “America’s energy dominance to power artificial intelligence, quantum computing and advanced manufacturing,” according to the press release. This news is another example of how GE Vernova’s energy solutions will help solve the growing electricity demands of the future. Up Next: Earnings after Tuesday’s closing bell include Club name Palo Alto Networks , Toll Brothers, and Keysight Technologies. Palo Alto CEO Nikesh Arora will be on “Mad Money” later to talk about earnings and where the cybersecurity business is headed. Before Wednesday’s opening bell, it’s a big retail day with Club name TJX Companies , Target , and Lowe’s . Club name Home Depot opened higher on Tuesday and tried to make a stand before sliding into the red. The company cleared a low bar by reiterating its full-year guidance and promising not to raise prices due to tariffs. (See here for a full list of the stocks in Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust.)
